What If

What if I don’t agree?

Better yet I do agree
With the “other side”
The side that’s angry, fed up, and speaking up
The side that’s tired of what’s been going on for years and years and years
Tired of the tears and fears

What if I agree?

Prejudice
Racist
Racially insensitive

Does it make you uncomfortable?

What if I’m not a…
Pro-trump
All lives matter
Conservative

Have you ever thought to ask?

Ask what I think, where I stand, how I feel.
If you don’t ask and I don’t tell. Is this real?
A real friendship, relationship.
Let me give you a math tip.

Stereotypes subtract my uniqueness.
Discrimination adds to my pain.
Prejudice multiplies my lack of belonging.

Don’t you see?

It’s all a math problem and
I’m greater than AND equal to a black successful woman.
And I could show you my work.

But should I have to?

Have to choose a side. One side.
What if I reside in between the lines
With pleading eyes I ask,

What if I’m just me?
